Product Details

Product description:

The airbag motorcycle jacket is specifically designed for motorcycle riding, providing protection in the event of an accident or when encountering challenging riding conditions. The airbag motorcycle jacket features protectors at the shoulders, elbows, and back, ensuring the rider's safety and offering excellent protection. The shoulders and elbows are reinforced with double-layer fabrics for enhanced wear resistance. Reflective printing enhances visibility and safety during nighttime rides. The stylish airbag motorcycle jacket incorporates multi-stitching, adding a fashionable touch. It also features a multi-vent design for breathability, allowing riders to open the vents on the front chest to release excess heat when needed.

The airbag motorcycle jacket has a 2-layer structure including outer shell jacket, raincoat and thermal liner. The airbag motorcycle jacket is CE certificated. The outer shell fabric is 500D nylon cordura which has characteristics of water repellent, abrasion resistant and tear resistant. The thermal liner with 80g padded to keep the body warmer in cold weather.

The airbag motorcycle jacket includes a cargo pocket on the back, providing ample storage space for raincoats, gloves and other essentials. The jacket's peach with foam neckline offers a soft and comfortable fit. Additionally, there is a waterproof pocket inside the airbag motorcycle jacket, allowing for convenient storage of a phone or other valuable items, keeping them protected from water damage. The shoulder and elbow protectors are EN 1621-1:2012 and the back protector is EN 1621-2:2014. Water flap underneath the front zipper can prevent the rain from getting into body. The neckline, waist and sleeves are adjustable. The neckline adjustment makes wearing a helmet easily. The adjustable waist allows the rider wear comfortably. The sleeve adjustment ensures the elbow protectors in the right position.

The motorcycle airbag system, integrated within the airbag motorcycle jacket, provides crucial protection to riders during accidents. Similar to airbag systems in cars, these motorcycle airbags are specifically designed to minimize injuries by creating a cushioning effect. In the event of a collision, built-in sensors swiftly detect the sudden change in velocity or impact, triggering the deployment of the airbag. The airbag rapidly inflates, forming a protective barrier between the rider and potential hard surfaces, effectively reducing the risk of severe injuries to the head, chest, and upper body. This crucial safety measure absorbs and disperses the force of the impact, significantly enhancing rider safety.

The airbag system in the airbag motorcycle jacket consists of a rubber airbag positioned within the jacket's tunnel. To activate the system, a gas cylinder, typically holding 60CC of CO2 is securely fixed in the jacket's right bottom area. In the event of an accident, the gas cylinder is released, allowing the airbag system to fill rapidly with CO2,then the rider can change another 60CC gas cylinder to use next time.

By employing this innovative airbag system, motorcycle riders gain an additional layer of safety, ensuring enhanced protection during accidents. The rapid inflation and strategic positioning of the airbag within the jacket significantly contribute to minimizing the potential harm caused by collisions, thereby safeguarding the well-being of motorcycle riders.

Touring textile airbag motorcycle jackets represent a significant advancement in rider safety and comfort. Combining innovative airbag technology with durable textile construction, these jackets offer impact protection, abrasion resistance, and ergonomic features tailored for long-distance motorcycle touring. This article provides an in-depth technical analysis, covering materials, engineering principles, regulatory compliance, and operational considerations.

1. Materials and Construction

1.1 Textile Fabric

  • Primary Materials: High-denier Cordura®, ballistic nylon, or polyester blends designed for abrasion resistance.

  • Reinforcements: Kevlar® or other aramid fibers stitched into critical areas (shoulders, elbows, back) to enhance cut resistance.

  • Waterproof and Breathable Membranes: Typically include laminates such as Gore-Tex® or proprietary equivalents with waterproof ratings ≥ 10,000 mm and breathability > 10,000 g/m²/24h.

1.2 Airbag System Components

  • Inflatable Bladders: High-strength TPU-coated nylon or polyurethane bladders, designed to inflate around the torso, spine, and sometimes shoulders or collarbone.

  • Sensors & Activation: Integrated mechanical or electronic trigger systems detect rapid deceleration or crash events, deploying the airbag in milliseconds (typically within 30–40 ms).

  • CO2 Cartridge: Provides rapid inflation gas, usually a 12-gram or 16-gram cartridge, designed for single-use deployment.

2. Engineering Principles

  • Impact Absorption: Airbag inflation cushions impact forces, reducing injury risk to ribs, spine, and thorax, complementing traditional armor inserts.

  • Abrasion Resistance: Textile outer layers protect against road rash, tested to comply with EN 13595 or CE Level AA standards.

  • Ergonomics: Adjustable fit features, ventilation zippers, and stretch panels accommodate extended wear comfort during long rides.

  • Deployment Reliability: Fail-safe activation mechanisms tested under multiple dynamic conditions to avoid false deployments while ensuring protection.

3. Regulatory and Safety Standards

  • EN 1621-4: Specific to motorcycle airbags, certifying airbag effectiveness and inflation reliability.

  • CE Certification: For protective clothing, ensuring armor and textiles meet minimum impact and abrasion resistance levels (Level 1 or 2).

  • ISO 13688: General requirements for protective clothing.

  • ECE R22: Motorcycle helmet compatibility considerations often referenced for integrated gear.

  • Battery & Electronic Compliance: UN38.3 for lithium battery transport safety if jacket contains electronic sensors.

4. Operational Considerations and Usage Guidelines

  • Proper Fit: The jacket must fit snugly but allow freedom of movement; loose fit can impede sensor accuracy and airbag effectiveness.

  • Maintenance: Regular inspection of textile integrity, sensor functionality, and CO2 cartridge expiry dates. Replace cartridges after deployment or per manufacturer schedule.

  • Environmental Resistance: Jackets are designed for all-weather touring; however, electronics must be water-resistant (IP67 rated) to avoid malfunction.

  • Training: Riders should familiarize themselves with deployment triggers, reset procedures, and charging protocols for reusable systems.

5. Data and Performance Examples

  • Studies show airbag jackets reduce thoracic injury risk by up to 80% in crash scenarios compared to non-airbag counterparts.

  • Inflatable bladders expand within 30–40 ms, faster than human reflexes, providing critical milliseconds of protection.

  • Textile abrasion tests (EN 13595) demonstrate resistance to wear exceeding 4 seconds at 50 km/h sliding speed.

6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: How often do airbag cartridges need replacement?
A: Cartridges are typically single-use and must be replaced after deployment. Unused cartridges should be checked for expiry or manufacturer-recommended service intervals, often 3–5 years.

Q2: Can airbag jackets be washed?
A: Most require removal of electronic components and cartridges before washing. Follow manufacturer instructions strictly to avoid damage.

Q3: Are airbag systems reusable?
A: Some electronic systems allow cartridge replacement and reset, while mechanical systems may be single-use. Verify based on model type.

Q4: Will the airbag deploy during normal riding movements?
A: No. Sensors differentiate between crash-like deceleration and regular riding dynamics to avoid false deployment.
